Smoother, Clearer Skin

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a solution applied to the treatment area by a professional to peel away damaged skin while also stimulating the renewal process. Also called a facial peel, a chemical peel can reduce hyperpigmentation, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, dullness, age spots, sun damage, and melasma. The formation of collagen and elastin is also stimulated by chemical peels, which results in the skin's new growth being smoother and fuller.

Chemical Peel vs. Microdermabrasion

While both chemical peels and microdermabrasion remove dead skin, differences between the two procedures make them ideal for different purposes. Microdermabrasion is a physical exfoliation method, whereas chemical peels are chemical exfoliants. When treating hyperpigmentation and other skin flaws, even a light chemical peel can be more effective than microdermabrasion since it penetrates deeper into the skin.

What can chemical peels do?

The purpose of a chemical peel is to refine the skin’s texture and improve signs of damage caused by environmental factors, aging, and skin conditions such as acne. The technique helps balance skin pigmentation and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You will notice gradual but significant changes in the general look of the skin when each subsequent peel operation is performed.

Look Younger and Healthier

Chemical Peel Preparation & Procedure

Anesthesia is not generally required for light or medium peels. However, until the peel is neutralized, you may experience some stinging or burning. A fan or cooling equipment may be used to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout your treatment.

Most patients will require local anesthetic or IV sedation for a deep peel. After your face has been washed and numbed, the peel solution is applied and left on your face for a few minutes to an hour, depending on the kind and strength of the peel and the sensitivity of your skin. When the treatment is complete, your specialist will apply a cool gauze compress to the affected area to neutralize the acid. Next, your face is moisturized and protected with sunscreen and moisturizer after a thorough cleansing with cold water compresses.

Emerge Refreshed

Chemical Peel Recovery, Results, & Aftercare

The type of peel performed dictates the recovery time needed. Skin will look red and feel itchy for two to four days following a light to medium peel. Seven to twelve days of recovery is typical for deeper peels, and residual redness and flaking can persist for up to three months. Prescription pain medicines may be necessary for the first several days after recovering from a deep phenol peel. Note that the degree of skin peeling following a peel is not necessarily indicative of its efficacy.

Maintaining your chemical peel results

As the side effects of a chemical peel wear off, your skin should start to look and feel better. Your skin will improve for up to three months as new collagen develops. Your aesthetician can make recommendations for maintaining your results with follow-up treatments later on.
