Next, your face is moisturized and protected with sunscreen and moisturizer after a thorough cleansing with cold water compresses.

The type of peel performed dictates the recovery time needed. Skin will look red and feel itchy for two to four days following a light to medium peel. Seven to twelve days of recovery is typical for deeper peels, and residual redness and flaking can persist for up to three months. Prescription pain medicines may be necessary for the first several days after recovering from a deep phenol peel. Note that the degree of skin peeling following a peel is not necessarily indicative of its efficacy.
